Choosing a swimsuit

5 Criteria For Choosing Sunsational Swimwear

Whether you’re planning a tropical getaway or simply thinking ahead to the hot summer months, there’s no time like the present to start considering swimwear options. In Edmonton, Spruce Grove and other nearby areas, Romantic Notions provides shoppers a range of chic styles. Our fitting consultants can help you find a suit that gives you the confidence to boldly hit the pool or beach and make an unabashed splash. While there’s nothing quite like getting one of our professional associates to help you find swimwear that looks and fits great, here are a few general considerations that should give you a sense of what styles will work best for you.

1.Think about how you’ll use your swimwear

The suit you select should be appropriate for the activities you’ll be engaging in while wearing it. If all you’re planning is a bout of lounging about poolside while sipping cocktails, then that itsy bitsy bikini is just super. But, if you’ll be hauling a toddler about or body surfing in the Caribbean, you’ll be much more comfortable in something that you don’t have to fiddle with every three seconds just to keep it from falling off.

2.Consider getting some much needed support

If you’re a chesty woman, then you’ll likely feel most comfortable in a suit that keeps your bits in place. The trick is to find swimwear that has:

  • Wide straps
  • Underwire
  • A specific size (cup and back), the same as your bra

3.Or a little oomph

Less top-heavy ladies have the advantage of not needing to worry about these details. Instead, they may wish to wish to balance out the visual appeal of their suit. Optically, they’ll appear bustier if they select swimwear that has V-necks, ruffles, bold patterns and/ or padding in the chest area.

4.Camouflage bits that you’re self-conscious about

If you’re like the majority of Edmonton area women that we meet, there’s likely a particular body part that you’re less than thrilled about. Whatever that is for you, there’s a way to either hide or visually detract from the perceived flaw. Here are a few of the more common ones we encounter and how you can choose a suit that camouflages the corresponding bit.

  • Wide hips. Choose a suit that’s cut higher up on the leg and has visual interest on top.
  • Broad shoulders. Select a suit that’s asymmetrical on top.
  • Love handles. Select a high-waisted bikini.
  • Tummy. Select a suit with ruches in the middle, or that has tummy control.
